This is a book review of King Jesus Claims His Church by Finny Kuruvilla of Followers of the Way/Sattler College. I have tested them for years and we find much sin / heresy in their ways as the links at the end of this testing shows. *********************************************** Note: We are head covered, striving for holiness, set apart / out of evangelicalism and out of the culture believers. We reject all man made organizations/pagan holidays and we are just simple home fellowship NT saints, street preachers, seeking God's kingdom. See the about us at: dontperish.com *********************************************** We will start off by saying that there is a good amount that is correct in this book which makes it spiritually dangerous to a seeker or believer because there are also unbiblical teachings and hypocrisy between the author and what he writes / teaches. Let's share a bit about the author. Finny Kuruvilla is one of the founders and so called apostle of the heretical Followers of the Way in Boston. He takes the title of doctor, he is a multi millionaire, he lives in a $1 million dollar home, owns a book publishing company, he is pouring $30 million dollars into Sattler college and he works in the high finance world as a controlling partner of Eventide a $7.4 BILLION dollar investment fund. Keep all that in mind as we go through some of these areas as he is in massive hypocrisy as a anabaptist who says we are to live like King Jesus and give away your extra stuff as he lives in comfort and excess! Note: Finny and his business partner claim to invest in only pure companies but Robin John his CEO is united to Comcast porn money via his board membership with Bloom India. (See that proven at a link below that they will not address) The Gospel Let's start with the gospel message that they seem to be teaching. The call for faith in Christ's death, burial and resurrection is mentioned but not a focus. (See the link at the end that exposes their confusing gospel ways.) Repentance is taught, although hypocritical, based on the life of the writer and their religious body as we will show you later. Being born again is not mentioned as the scriptures teach but they blend the baptism with the Holy Spirit as some sort of mystical event and he also acknowledges that the baptism of the Holy Spirit might come before actual water baptism (more on that later.) They believe baptism is a sacrament to grace and that is NOT scriptural. Obedience is taught somewhat, although hypocritically based on the life of the author and the members of their religious body and those who attend an administer at Sattler College. Endurance to them is remaining in their body as a proclaimed believer (of which the elders and so called Apostles) are the ones who proclaim the person as a believer (more on that later). Then they move on to say that the gospel has more of a focus on the kingdom / nation of King Jesus and the body of believers. (Including the mystical powers of the church body as well as baptistm, Lord's supper and marriage as sacramental types. More on those as we go along.) You won't see a consistent biblical gospel of what Christ has done because of the sinfulness of man and a blood sacrifice required by God, but one of people in the nation or kingdom of King Jesus, as they say. Finny's church (members of the Followers of the Way) deny penal subsitutionary atonement, and many teach the Christus Victor or ransom theory by which satan was paid the ransom through Christ and it wasn't a blood sacrifice of God as we see in many areas of scripture including Isaiah 53. (Many such people like to go to the Apocrapha, early church fathers or man's opinions to discredit that chapter and that truth.) They also believe in a Christocentric view of the gospel, focusing mostly on Jesus words, mainly the sermon on the mount and down playing Paul as he preached Christ crucified. The rest of the epistles are mentioned in support of their view but overlooked in many areas that would oppose their teachings. (We'll show you those as we go through the book.) While we agree on the fact that Jesus came to bring the kingdom of God within us, they focus primarily on Jesus setting up a nation (that Israel failed to do as per his words in the book) here on earth and they see it as a political type setting with a king and his people with the governing authorities under it (which may seem in essence a biblical concept), they also include much heresy and take the focus off what Christ has done (the atonement for sins and the need of a savior from it) and instead getting one into the body of Christ which includes their mystical roman catholic like beliefs which we will talk about in more depth as we go. Apostle Paul, when he preached the gospel was always in reference to Christ's death, burial and resurrection. Chapter 15) As we mentioned, there are some biblical teachings and concepts throughout the book that we would agree per scripture but then within that are false teachings that we have to expose. Lets get right to the book...... Chapter 4 Pages 31 and 32 Finny explains a scenario of a man that went up to an altar call and 'committed his heart to the Lord', then explains how he went to church but ended up continuing in his sins. Finny summarizes by saying that the man was lacking discipleship, which may have been the case but more so the fact that he may not have been born again. That man was a convert into a church system but not into the body of Christ through the Holy Spirit by being born again. Finny does not focus on being born again (in fact as we stated, they claim the baptism into the church is what is needed to be in the kingdom). Although Finny does have valid points on discipleship, that is not what transforms a person, the power of the Holy Spirit through being born again (from above) is what does it via the gospel. Finny's church body (Followers of the Way) has an emphasis and focus on getting into the 'kingdom' through baptism and they think they control who enters God's kingdom. (read on for that) They are very lacking on a consistent new life theology via the biblical gospel...... Chapter 5 Finny explains about helping the brethren, and he does a pretty good job doing it but here's where we see the hypocrisy. On page 46 he talks about giving away an extra tunic and he doesn't even wear a biblical tunic as men should per Genesis 3;21 as it is biblical for men to wear. In fact, those associated with his religious body (Matthew Milioni) laugh at those who follow the command for biblical dress for men - tunics as their men like at Sattler college dress in feminized skinny pants. (see the link below) Finny, the millionaire hypocrite, encourages the brothers to avoid pursuing incomes greater than required. He says that materialism is one of the most blinding sins. Finny must be blind to his hypocrisy at his $7.5 billion dollar money fund. He goes on to say that Jesus' disciples should keep little in this life. Maybe Finny considers millions 'little' compared to billions that could be made? (see our link below that documents he spent $5oo,ooo to $1 million dollars on furniture alone for his college and close to $1 million each year for renting a fancy office building for it all the while they beg for money from the public to house immigrants) What rank hypocrites as they are including how they sell Gods truth at the college and in classes with David Bercot! (see it proven at the links below) Chapter 8 On pages 85-87 Finny goes into great detail describing 3 views of sola scriptura with Tradition 1, Tradition 2 and Tradition 0. Briefly, they say that Tradition 1 is what the early church held to with the scriptures being the only infallible authority but not THE authority. Apparently meaning that it's the authority of the church to interpret scriptures and if there is any doubt then the scriptures are the final authority. Tradition 2 allows for other authority to be equal to scripture, which is not what they believe. Tradition 0 is what they call solo scriptura. (note the solo not sola) They say it 'exalts the individual's private judgement over the corporate judgement of the church.' The problem with Tradition 1 is that they follow who they call 'church fathers' and even in that they are not consistent because they on one hand talk about what they did or said was biblical, then they go and share what they did or said was not biblical. How can that be 'authority'? And of course Tradition 2 is not biblical because the authority is the scriptures and nothing is equal or infallible. Now let's look at tradition 0. They claim that individualism is unbiblical in that it causes division outside of the authority of the church. That's a broad blanket statement that they can't back up because they, the Followers of the Way, with Finny as one of the leaders, are outside of biblical commands in the scriptures and they are considered the church authority and so an individual should divide from their authority until they repent. Finny and their religious body also believe in some sort of mystical power in the church body that the elders (so called Apostles) have in determining if one is in the kingdom of God. Finny and Matthew Milioni (one of their so called apostles) were both in the Baptist faith and the evangelical faith and they practiced Tradition 0 by leaving them over doctrine. How hypocritical. We, ourselves, have been called contentious for not being willing to unite to such church authorities, yet they themselves did it to form Followers of the Way. In great hypocrisy they would say you cannot decide for yourself and divide over doctrine but they did it themselves??? Confusion they are and it is not of God per 1 Cor 14:33! Chapter 9 Page 93 Finny talks against cultural relativism and gives a few examples including homosexuality, women's dress, women's headcovering and women's silence. While the scriptures clearly teach on these subjects, Finny and the Followers of the Way are hypocrites and we'll show you why. Finny started Sattler college (as we mentioned earlier) which is to be a Christian college. They unite to and promote sodomite leaning men like Allan Hirsch. Finny does not teach and hold to biblical head covering and in fact women don't need to wear them there and can show off their hair in sin. Women's and men's dress in the college and in their religious body, is not biblical (some women dress biblical but many don't. On that note, the men are not dressed biblical either.) Sattler College doesn't discriminate on sexual orientation (homosexuality) according to their website statement saying "they do not discriminate on sexual orientation". (Do they say this to get tax free status? They are governmental sell outs then.) We have also heard and seen on video, women speaking up in their gatherings while the men are teaching. Their college president Dean Taylor talks of hands off courtship while their employees do not practice it. (see all of this exposed at the links below) They talk good but their fruit is lacking much and is rotten in many ways! Chapter 10 Page 101 He talks about the great commands of loving God and loving your neighbor. He later, in the chapter, talks about loving your enemies (referencing the sermon on the mount which they cling to most of all in scriptures over the rest of the NT Word.) Loving God means keeping His commands and we are showing you and will show you more, where Finny and the Followers of the Way do not keep His commands. They also do not love their 'enemy' and we know first hand because we have reached out to them and have either been ignored or treated badly by being called names and lied about. See the Matthew Milioni tested below at the links. Chapter 13 Page 129 In reference to spiritual gifts, he claims that there have been " hundreds, if not thousands of well documented cases of miracles and supernatural gifts' then goes on to claim that Charles Spurgeon is one of (the many) 'credible' and 'trustworthy Christians' of which such things have occurred. (He inserts a story of Charles being able to see into peoples lives and know how much they charged for something they sold etc.) Finny is taking the word of unbiblical heretic calvinist people like Spurgeon and from Anabaptist leaders like Marpeck's testimony and across denominations (which are made of man) as truth without any proven evidence. He is leaving the door open, in this manner, to NAR (New Apostolic Reformation) like signs and wonders thelogy. Are there such signs and wonders happening at Followers of the Way Boston, like resurrections? Paul said apostles did such signs so where are Finny's, Charlton's and Milioni's miracles per 2 Cor 12;12? Chapter 20 In this chapter, Finny talks about clothing and on pages 185 and 186 he uses human reasoning as to what the words 'modest apparel' mean in 1 Timothy 2:9. Sattler College, the one he founded, teaches greek and he knows it too but yet he doesn't use the greek words to teach what a woman should wear. (Orderly, well arranged dresses or robes) Instead he references Deuteronomy 22:5 that men and women are to wear distinct clothing and references the culture in America that women's distinct clothing is dresses and the men are pants. Yet prior to this he references Jesus robe coming to His feet. If Finny were to look a bit deeper into the area of clothing our temples of the Holy Spirit, he would see what the real meaning is and that women are commanded to wear dresses / robes and men are to be wearing tunics (as we see in Genesis when God clothed them). He teaches against cultural relativism but yet partakes of it in his own teachings. On the note of clothing, we see that there are those in the Followers of the way that wear adorned clothing and some in cape dresses that are form fitting and men totally unbiblical. See a link an biblical clothing below. Chapter 21 Finny teaches on headcovering, which is biblical, but yet he doesn't enforce it in his 'Christian' college and even with many that do cover, oftentimes the covering is very small and hanging on the back of the head, becoming more of a bun cover than a head cover. Chapter 22 Finny talks about worldly entertainment and while he rightfully teaches the scriptures on this, he is a hypocrite in that their religious body is involved in worldly and even vile entertainment, see the next two points: Page 198 under #2, he says that professional sports and hollywood movies fall under what would be an abomination. What Finny doesn't tell anyone is that the members of his religious body, Followers of the Way Boston, are involved in a wicked and vile facebook page called DKCM and Finny was a guest on their podcast. (DKCM is a heretical worldly, carnal, compromised ecumenical, anabaptist entertainment page with such foolish and sinful things as violence, Hollywood movie depictions, vulgarity, harlotry and more.) Not to mention Sattler teachers are into the NFL and movies (see the links below) more hypocrisy in them! Page 199 under #8 he talks about how supporting cable television means those who pay for it are supporting such channels as MTV. What Finny doesn't tell you is that various teachers at Sattler college are worldly and partake of carnal sporting events on tv. Also, his CEO at Eventide Investments (Robin John) sits on a charity board that is overseen by a Comcast VP. Comcast is a large media offering of pornography to the american viewers. See the proof below and it is more hypocrisy from Finny Kuruvilla. Chapter 24 Page 211 Finny does a good job talking about technology and the care that should be taken with it but yet it's hypocritical because the people in his religious body are using technology for foolishness and worldly entertainment as we told you about their DKCM page. Finny says it should be used as little as possible and as much as necessary. (Vile, worldly entertainment is not necessary) Chapter 25 Divorce and Remarriage We are not offering a review on this chapter of the book as we already know the heretical stances that Finny and Followers of the way take (and the book proves their heresies). Here are a few examples: *They believe marriage is a once for life sacrament. * They believe Jesus contradicted Moses when allowing for divorce / remarriage. * They deny remarriage even in cases of fornication * They destroy godly homes if you had divorce in your pre Christ past. See this link with many articles that refute (with God's word) their heretical divorce and marriage stances. (click the button.) Chapter 27 Sacraments and Ordinances Finny, and Followers of the Way Boston, believe in a sacramental view of marriage (page 236) in that something mystical happens in the fleshly union. They also claim that there is to be one marriage per life. That is not biblical at all as Jesus and Paul allowed for some divorce and remarriage. They believe that a divine power infuses the Lord's supper, much like the Roman Catholics (or perhaps Lutherans) where there is some mystical occurrence that happens during the consuming of the bread and wine. They don't believe it is a symbol and example that was given us, but that there is something mystical that goes on with it somewhere between what the Roman Catholics believe in transubstantiation (that it turns literally into the body and blood) and the Lutherans of consubstantiation (of which the spirit is on in and around.) They don't quite explain it fully but as we see with their own words, they believe there's a divine power infused in that meal. Which goes along with some of their other mystical teachings that we'll move on to. They are holding to roman catholic like false sacraments. See teachings about the Lord's supper here: http://spiritandtruthdiscernment.blogspot.com/ Chapter 28 Finny teaches that local church is infused with a spiritual power, see what he says on page 240 below. They claim that that the church has the power to welcome people into or put people out of the 'kingdom'. (Referencing the binding and loosing in Matthew 18, as well as the keys of the kingdom of heaven in Matthew 16. ) You can see their mystical view for yourself below. They believe that there is a special power of Jesus within the kingdom and the keys of heaven have been given to the 'church' to affirm or deny citizenship in the kingdom. (Page 242) below. Then they claim that if repents and is born again and the Holy Spirit is within them, they are not in the kingdom until they (the church) determines if someone is in or not. And again on page 244 below, they claim a mystical power directly from Jesus. Then they move on to how the 'church' should affirm unfamiliar citizens. Forget the power of God transforming a person and bringing them into the ekklesia, body of Christ, they now need to evaluate many aspects of the person's life to see if they will allow said person into the kingdom. (they use a spiritual assessment program as well) I'll share the pictures of the pages so you can see for yourself on pages 246 and 247 below If someone doesn't 'pass' their 10 point litmus test, they may not be allowed in the 'kingdom'? This is lifted up men controlling other men vs men coming to Jesus for salvation as our go between to God. It is heresy. Read page 248 above and it clearly states that if there are any outstanding issues that they should not affirm citizenship. Their church has the right to determine the fate of a soul that claims to be born again but may need work in several areas? Based on this, they could refuse a person entry into the kingdom (maybe because they have too much debt or unruly children) and that person may die before they are allowed entry and they are lost forever...because the church didn't let them in? This is heresy! God adds to the body, not Finny or Matthew Milioni! See Acts 2 In the next section on page 248 he states that many churches no longer have Jesus abiding presence and then on page 249 they list reasons how such apostate churches can be recognized: According to their own words they are apostate because their people are worldly, carnal, unbiblical in dress and headcovering and adornment, they store up treasures (keep in mind Finny is a millionaire) and they don't love their enemies. How shameful of them! Chapter 31 Page 283, Finny once again claims the mysticism of the Lord's supper below and he believes men control who is in the kingdom of God... NOT just who is allowed in the local body. This is wicked roman catholic like theology! Page 283 below. Chapter 32 Followers of the Way Boston, unbiblically consider Sunday as the Lord's Day. See that exposed here as false: http://spiritandtruthdiscernment.blogspot.com/2014/02/sundayis-it-lords-day.html Page 300 Finny talks greatly about the Moravians and they were a corrupt cult that had weird ideas about Jesus side wound being like a womb! Dean Taylor adores them as well. See the Moravian's exposed here: https://bewareoffalse-unbiblicalteachers.blogspot.com/2020/06/moravian-church-exposed.html *****On page 311 and on, he goes on about the gospel and intertwines it with the kingdom and salvation**** Chapter 36 Page 320 Finny once again talks about the mysticism of baptism and the power of the 'church' to declare your citizenship. .Page 323 Finny claims that baptism should not be something that takes a long time, in fact he mentions in many places that it was 'hours' later. How can this be as we just showed you the litmus test that one must get through in order to be welcomed into the kingdom by the 'church' and it's mystical power to determine whether one is fit or not? Confusion..... Chapter 38 More double talk on college education. Page 339 Finny shows great hypocrisy in that he claims this below, see the underlined part. Finny in great hypocrisy is the founder of a college (that God did not ordain) and is spending $30 MILLION on Sattler college! On page 340 he talks against financial debt but yet he has people pay to go to college and live in one of the most expensive areas in the country, Boston. (The price to go to Finny's 4 year college $40,000 to $100,000) Page 341 Finny discusses occupations. Finny is a multi millionaire that runs a college and buys millions of dollars on furniture and renting of fancy business buildings! What total hypocrisy in this false man! Read on to see even more hypocrisy. Page 342 below Finny claims that if someone is selling books or in high finance, it would require the repentance of changing jobs. Finny runs Anchor Cross Publishing which is 'book selling'. And Finny is united to David Bercot who is on Sattlers board who sells books!!!! Finny is also the CFO for $7.5 billion dollar Eventide Fund and is worth millions of dollars himself. He needs to repent of his rank hypocrisy and massive dishonesty and lies! Page 343 below. Let's look at all the impressive titles Finny boasts about on his high finance investment firm. Chapter 39 page 349 below Even more hypocrisy as Finny, Matthew Milioni and Charlton Sweazy all call themselves apostles! Finny is getting a rebuke here with his own words! (Strong rebukes should be given, per him.) Extra notes: Throughout the book, Finny uses resources of heretical people in a positive light. (Charles Finny, Wesley, murderous Calvin, murderous Luther and more). He also uses the human logic of looking at the interpretations of the so called 'church fathers' (who were unbiblical) to weigh what the scriptures say when 1 John 2:27 says otherwise and John 14:26 says the Holy Spirit will teach us all things. By leaning on the opinions of their 'church fathers' who they admit, some had heresy, they are not trusting in the Holy Spirit and the Scriptures but in uninspired men. We hope you can now clearly see the massive heresy and hypocrisy of Finny, FOTW, Sattler College and anabaptist's in general as they all hold to many of these false ways. We really do hate their man made doctrines (Psalm 119:104) but love them and pray they repent to save their souls! See this link (with many other links) that document all we have said in the above testing: https://www.dontperish.com/false-teachers-videos--testings/category/1-followers-of-the-way-boston-exposed The above link exposes Followers of the Way, Sattler College and the men involved there. If you study as a berean we documented it all and offer teaching articles that show God's truth. God be Praised! |
