Women Pastors are Unbiblical

God’s Word teaches that godly women are not to be pastors, elders, deacons (etc), have no authority, nor be teachers over the men in the body.   

The requirements for these positions are listed in Titus 1 and 1 Timothy 3. God’s Word says an elder is to be a man (husband) in verse 6. (Titus 1) 

Titus 1:5-9  For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee: 6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.  7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; 8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; 9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

Again, in verse 2 (1 Timothy 3) we see that a bishop (overseer) is to be a man (husband) and verses 11 and 12 show that a deacon (minister, pastor, teacher, servant) is to be a man (husband) as well. 



1 Timothy 3:1-13 This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.  2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; 4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; 5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)  6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.  7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; 9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.  10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.  11 Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.  12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.  13 For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Women are instructed to be silent in the body in reference to teaching and authority over the men.   

1 Timothy 2:12-14 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.  12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.  13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.  14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

The greek word for silence is: hēsuchia

G2271 Feminine of G2272; (as noun) stillness, that is, desistance from bustle or language: - quietness, silencel, description of the life of one who stays at home doing his own work and does not officiously meddle with the affairs of others, silence, quietness.  


From 2272/hēsyxios ("calmly quiet") describes being "appropriately tranquil" by not misusing (or overusing) words that would stir up needless friction (destructive commotion).

This does not mean a total absence of speech because the word hēsuchia is also used in verse:

2 Thessalonians 3 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness (hēsuchia) they work, and eat their own bread.

The greek word silence in verse 1 Corinthians 14 verse 34 is: sigaō 
From G4602; to keep silent (transitive or intransitive): - keep close (secret, silence), hold peace.


1 Corinthians 14:34-35 Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. 35 If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.

We see in 1 Corinthians 14:30 (just prior to the women being instructed in silence)
"If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace."

The word sigaō   is used for 'hold his peace'. 

In context with scripture we see that women are to be silent when it comes to leadership and authority, to be peaceably quiet while the men are teaching and leading; not asking questions and being in obedience and subjection to their authority (husbands).

This does not mean women are of lesser importance in the eyes of the Lord as we can see from Galatians 3:28  where we see God is no respecter of persons as well as 1 Corinthians 11 in which Paul refers to the creation order of men and women.  We also see that while our beloved Savior Jesus was here, there were many women that traveled with Him, learning alongside the men.

Luke 8:1-3 And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him, 2 And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, 3 And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance.

Luke 24: He is not here, but is risen: remember how He spake unto you when He was yet in Galilee,  7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.  8 And they remembered His words, 9 And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest. 10 It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.


God has very important roles for women in that they are the helpers and partners to their husbands, to bear and raise children in the admonition of the Lord, teaching and helping other women as well as sharing the good news in ways becoming of a godly woman.  Paul greatly praises the works of many women for their labors inside the body as well as helping proclaim the gospel to the lost (the great commission).

These women: Priscilla, Euodia, Synthyche, Persis, Tryphena, Tryphosa, Junia, Phebe, Julia, Nereus sister, Mary (and many others) are praised by Paul as being workers, fellow laborers in the gospel as servants to the body of Christ.

Philippians 4:3 And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellow labourers, whose names are in the book of life.

God’s Word clearly shows that women have very important roles in the body of Christ BUT that men (only) are to be the leaders and the women are to follow, not taking any authoritative roles.

Many claim that these commands of women to be silent and not to have authority over men are a cultural command and have no relevance today.  This is a lie as we read in 1 Corinthians 1:2 that the entire book is for all those who claim Christ, everywhere:

Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their's and our's
1 Corinthians 1:2

This also begs the question: If we can toss out portions of the bible and use the excuse as being cultural, what else can be thrown out?

We encourage you to obey ALL of the commands in the bible as we live by EVERY Word...

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Seek the kingdom of God and be content with the role that the Lord has ordained for women.
