Dry milk in van life is an awesome blessing because you don't have to worry about keeping a cooler full of ice to keep it cold, dry milk is shelf stable and you can do everything with it that you can with fresh milk. On the homesteads I used to use non fat instant because that's all I really knew about and never thought about powdered whole milk because I never saw it on the shelves and never looked into it. I do a majority of our shopping at Walmart because they (many of their stores) welcome travelers to park in their parking lot overnight so we give them our business and up until just recently I haven't seen them carry whole milk. (I'm using their brands for example because that's what's mostly available to me.) Once I saw that they carry whole milk, I got a bag and I'm sold...I won't go back to non fat unless that's my only option. It's richer, fuller flavor and just as easy to mix in cold water as non fat, especially when I use my milk frother to incorporate it without any lumps. (Check out that post HERE.) Instant dry milk (whether it's non fat or whole milk) is a great thing to have in your kitchen because even if you prefer fresh milk, you may run out and not want to make a trip to the store just for one item. Go HERE for a post on off grid coffee creamer options.
Hopefully that Titus 2 tip helps you in some way. Comments are closed.
