 Greetings godly sister saints! The other day I asked brother James to draw me a picture, and because I have a stack of his tunics to modify, he drew me this cute picture lol :-) It made me think that it would be a good idea to dig through my sewing posts from my old blog (that I don't post on anymore cuz I'm here on our website in the women's area now) and so I have for you a simple 2 panel skirt pattern, how to lengthen a skirt, how to modify the waist of a skirt that is too big and how to modify a big shirt. I was never taught to sew and one day brother James got me a sewing machine, I plugged it in and through trial and error figured out how to do things the most simple way possible which was to shop in thrift stores and modify what I found and after getting a little practice, I taught myself to make a simple skirt. When we're on the road preaching the gospel and I don't have my sewing machine, I modify things by hand. I'm saying all this to show you that it's possible for anyone to learn how to do such things and it's really quite simple. Simple Two Panel Skirt It's a super basic pattern that anyone can do because you'll notice there is no zipper, no snaps or anything cuz you can pin the top shut. You can add any of those attachments if you want in fact I like to add a little flap that has a snap on it to hold it or you can use velcro....whatever works for you. If you're not a sewer like me, the first one might take a bit longer until you get what you are looking for then the ones after that are quicker cuz you use this one as a pattern and then just draw bigger around it for the allowance of seams. They can be done pretty inexpensive also as I have used broadcloth and it holds up just fine and is very affordable. I've also used a soft denim when I find it on sale. This pattern can quickly get a woman some skirts in her wardrobe in no time and not have to wait weeks and weeks to find something in the thrift stores. Modify a Skirt Waist that is Too Big If you find a skirt that is too big, you can easily take in some seams on it to where it fits you. Lengthen a SkirtIf you find a skirt that fits but is too short, you can buy it and then keep watching for another skirt that you can use for lengthening it or maybe you already have one, or the material to do so. Modify a ShirtThe shirts you see in the video were from the men's section, of which I find to be fruitful in having more options of plain shirts to work with.
Hopefully that encourages you sisters knowing there are simple, affordable ways to clothe ourselves in a biblical manner. I always tell people to keep things simple so remember that while you do this and be joyous unto the Lord for all He has done through the gospel, which you can test yourself to HERE.
