Greetings sister saints!
I hope this day finds you well and strong in the Lord. I thought today I'd talk a bit about social media. There are times when I'm witnessing and I'll ask the woman if she goes on the internet and sometimes (often) they say 'Oh I don't go on social media!' And although I can understand someone who might have the temptation to go wandering around in such areas without a good and godly purpose, most of the people I witness to are worldly in their dress and actions and are probably watching tv and/or movies, doing all things of the world, thus by their comments, making social media to be evil or something. I'm not advocating for social media and that people should be on it, I'm just sharing some thoughts is all. We've been back and forth on it ourselves and used various platforms for our ministry, sometimes using it and sometimes not. Some we have given up entirely because of various reasons but I want to say this....we are not spotted by what's on social media, we are spotted if we partake of what's not good and godly. That could mean anything from setting vile things before our eyes to wasting time on it when we have other things to do to further the kingdom of God. If you have been following along on my blog (and or brother James teaching blog) you will see that we've changed how we do some things. I no longer post on the sisters blog and put all my edification and sharing both here on our website (in all the women's pages) and on Facebook as well as Instagram. Now I want to talk about that. We noticed more censorship going on in blogger so we decided that going forward we would make sure all our content is added to this website where we have more control over it. I made new pages and think we have it organized in a manner that we can work with but it left me with some pondering how to move forward in my encouragement. I used to do blog posts with all sorts of sharing in one post, from topics, witnessing experiences, videos, pictures and random thoughts that might be edifying. Now that we have various places to put such things (see the different pages I have set up for women) that left my random thoughts, pictures and simple sharing with no place to go because I want to keep these posts, topic oriented. In came social media. Quite some time ago, when we had our carving business, I used to just use it for marketing and such. Once we were done with that I cleaned it up and then used it for random postings and links etc. I never really did much with it because we don't do the friend thing and all that, so we don't get out there much. Well, since we made these changes I decided to go and use that platform to share edification to the sisters that comes in an easy to find, easy to read, easy to post, form. It fits in with my daily activities of having bits and pieces of time, here and there so that's why I started doing it that way. So far it's been working out wonderful and I have much more time to do other ministry things that keep us very busy. The reason I'm writing about it is because we also know professed believers that won't use facebook or instagram or twitter or whatever is out there, because they claim it's evil and vile. I'll be honest with you, I see more vile things in Walmart in the summer than I do on FB or Instagram cuz I go directly into my page (or the page of a saint) and am edified by their daily content. In fact, I was looking up a recipe for something the other day because I was wondering if I could substitute something and there was more wicked advertising there than on the pages I use to edify my sisters. And to be honest with you, I have no temptations to be flipping through worldly peoples pages just to see what's going on, I have no interest of looking back at my family who have trampled the truth of God, I don't friend and I don't get anyone's news feeds. I go on saints pages, and therefore am in total control of what I see and set before me. So, in saying all this, if you are one that doesn't use any social media platforms, or prefer not to use some, that's totally your choice and I'm not pressuring you in anyway. We all do what we do, unto the Lord, in a way that we can in the lives that the Lord has for us. There's no doubt that the internet will be getting darker and the Christians may be leaving it all together but until then... Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:13-16 ...I'll do what I can, in the most God honoring way, to glorify God and encourage the saints, shining a light in a dark place. Much love to you sister saints who are striving after our Saviour! Sister Deb with Brother James |
