Good day sister saints! I was reading about the fall of Jericho and came across this... And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the Lord : only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent. Joshua 6:17 We see that Rahab was spared for more than just hiding the messengers She had faith along with her good works. And she said unto the men, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath. Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the Lord, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true token: And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death. And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the Lord hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee. Joshua 2:9-14 Faith and works. By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace. Hebrews 11:31 We see her reward for that.... And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword. But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot's house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her. And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel. Joshua 6:21-23 I think about what that must have been like for her and her family knowing destruction is coming but also trusting in the Lord to hold to the promise that was made to her by the spies who were coming to rescue them. I can imagine their relief when the spies came, leading them quickly out of the bloodshed and to safety. (We know there are many similar accounts like that in the scriptures of the Lord saving people from destruction: Lot, the Israelites from Egypt, Noah etc.) Today, we saints have a similar case yet we are not rescued physically from the wickedness of the world but spiritually from the grips of satan. Christ, who shed his blood, made a way through the GOSPEL for us to be saved from the wrath of God and eternal damnation, by offering us a new life, right where we are, by His power and through His strength. We then become soldiers for Him, standing in the truth, holding fast to the faith, fighting the good fight, and (like the spies;) going to look for lost sheep by preaching the gospel and shining our light, helping others escape. Before we move on, let's read this, what Rahab had to do in order to be saved... Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee. And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him. And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear. Joshua 2:18-20 Sounds like the blood on the doorposts in Egypt doesn't it? Faith and works...one without the other is nothing. I'm going to go now, sending much love to you all and hope you strive on. Keep focusing on what's in front of you and do it heartily as to the Lord. Love to you all in Christ, Sister Aman Thankful for safe travels. Comments are closed.
